The aggressive narrative on secularism being reinforced in the country by the intellectuals, activists, and a section of the media helps the BJP to remain in power without much effort. The secularism proliferated by them is currently very simple. It is diametrically opposite to what the BJP or the union government indulges in. And which is palatable only to the similar minded educated people. The paradigm on secularism created by them is something like anti-religion. Therefore it doesn't cut much ice with the majority in whose life religion plays a significant role.Cleverly the BJP interprets the paradigm in such a way that it is anti-Hindu and pro-Muslim.

The fragmented opposition while publically subscribing to the narrative propagated by the media and the intellectuals ,simultaneously resort themselves to various communal appeasement strategies as well to win over certain groups keeping an eye on the vote share. At the grassroot level this provides fertile climate for the BJP and its allies to manueor their communal games in a more effective way using the paraphernalia of religion and worship.

A weak opposition is a potential danger in a functional democracy. In India the presence and the significance of the opposition is deplorably pathetic. The agitation followed by the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)testifies to the insignificant stance of the opposition. The agitation taking place in different parts of the country are radarless and lacking leadership. The agitation started by the student community unproportionally propagated by the media in fact created the impression that countriwide agitation is going on against the CAA.

In fact all the opposition parties are up against the central government in the matter of the CAA.But joint agitation by them is still not even a distant possibility. And it ends up in gaining momentum to the NDA and BJP in particular. The fact of the matter is that each party is trying to reap the maximum gain out of the agitation for themselves .Nor do they bothered about those who affected by the act ,or as their claim the eroding of the spirit of the constitution. In respect of the fury of the agitation both the West Bengal and the Kerala government are in the forefront. But they cannot come together on a common platform. That itself vouches for how far committed they are to the cause they are fighting for.At the end of the day the BJP could see that their mission accomplished- a distinct divide on the lines of commnal equations. This may reflect in the Delhi assembly elections take place next month.
